Joan’s Place, a vision led by Youth Opportunities Unlimited—known locally as YOU—is where the affordable units will be built, providing young women and babies a stable home at the most vulnerable time in their lives.
“We have worked with YOU for many years and they are a trusted community partner,” said Shane Butcher, Regional Manager, Libro Credit Union. “Libro’s investment in YOU demonstrates the importance of stable housing and what it means now and in the long-term towards ending the cycle of poverty.”
Steve Cordes CEO of Youth Opportunities Unlimited thanked Libro and others who have joined in supporting a bright future for youth at a time when our community is facing a critical affordable housing shortage.
He said, “in addition to finding a home, Joan’s Place residents will be able to build their path to financial independence through employment programs specifically designed for youth.” These supports and others will be part of an innovative youth wellness hub to exist within Joan’s Place.
Libro Credit Union’s community investment programs support financial resilience, housing, local food accessibility and employment as key areas of focus to deliver our promise to grow prosperity in southwestern Ontario.
“We want our community to know we stay invested for the long-term,” explains Shane. “We received the application for this project before the world changed. As part of our core business at Libro, community investments will continue.”
Last week, Libro announced a large donation to United Ways across southwestern Ontario in support of emergency response initiatives for Covid-19, bringing a total investment in London and area to $110,000.
