SIMCOE ON – Libro Credit Union and affordable housing charity Indwell have announced a partnership that will support affordable housing in Simcoe for 51 people – and help its tenants to eat healthily.
Libro has provided $76,500 towards Dogwood Suites, a supportive affordable housing community being built in Simcoe by Indwell as part of their vision of Hope and Homes for All.
The credit union’s contribution will be used to equip each apartment with a kitchenette that includes a stove and a fridge. This will allow the tenants, with the help of Indwell staff and food security programs, to put into practice learned skills around nutrition.
In addition to housing, Indwell’s programming provides supports to help tenants with problem-solving, to monitor their health, to encourage social activities and to connect them with community resources and volunteer opportunities.
Leah Logan, Indwell Regional Manager, Haldimand Norfolk, said: “Our Dogwood Suites project has been a community collaboration. As an organization, we want to see people flourish when they are surrounded by love, dignity and hope.
“Libro’s support allows our future tenants to know that they belong, that they are loved and that they can grow in health, wellness and belonging with their community supporting them every step of the way. Thank you, Libro, for your dedication to seeing members of our community flourish.”
Scott Macleod, Libro’s Regional Manager, Community Banking, said: “We’re excited to support this project because it means access to adequate, safe and affordable housing for local people who really need it.
“This matters deeply to us at Libro, where access to housing and food security are some of the most important issues that we want to address. Our key focus areas, where we seek to make an impact as a community partner and as a business with a social purpose, align well with the work being done by Indwell, so we’re delighted to have Indwell as a partner.”
Fundraising for Dogwood Suites continues. We respectfully ask the public to consider making a donation by visiting the Indwell website here.
